Poujoulat Heat Guildford maintained the pressure on early pacesetters Sheffield Sharks thanks to a hard-fought 98-89 victory over the BiG Storage Cheshire Jets at the Northgate Arena on Sunday evening.

The Jets started the stronger, and Shawn Myers led the way with seven points in the opening minutes to help the home side to a 25-14 lead after the opening quarter. The second quarter saw the Heat begin to close the gap thanks to the outside shooting from James Jones in particular as the visitors closed the gap to ten points at 54-44 at the half.

In the second half, it was the Heat who exploded out of the blocks, and a 14-5 start to the third period closed the deficit to a single point at 59-58. The Heat continued their domination of the period, restricting the Jets to eleven points total, and bagging another sixteen points of their own in the quarter to lead 74-65 going into the final stanza.

The final quarter saw the Jets valiantly attempt to reduce the deficit, and got to within eight points at 91-83 off the back of a 12-3 run with four minutes remaining.

The Heat maintained their advantage in the last two minutes, and were able to secure the all-important victory.

Danny Gilbert led all scorers in the game with 26 points for the Heat, including 16 points in the final quarter alone, while Myers led the Jets scoring with 25 points personal.
