Newcastle Eagles re-established their four-point advantage over the Poujoulat Heat Guildford at the top of the BBL Championship thanks to a comfortable 59-104 victory over the Team Birmingham Panthers at the Sport TCAT Arena, Telford on Sunday afternoon.

The Eagles opened the game the stronger, and a 17-5 tear across the first quarter break took the score out to 15-37. This was immediately followed up by a further 13-4 burst to close out the first half at 19-50.

The second half was played in much the same vein with the Eagles dominating the game at both ends of the floor.

The Panthers provided some resistence at the start of the final stanza with an 11-3 run to get the score back to 47-81, but the result was never in doubt as the Eagles ran out comfortable winners.

Charles Smith led all scorers in the game with 23 points for the Eagles, while Daniel Sandell led the Panthers scoring with 13.
