Worcester Wolves booked their place in the BBL Trophy’s last four with an 84-81 home win over Sheffield Sharks.
Wolves raced out to an 8-0 lead at the start of the match and they kept themselves well in control with a 12-0 burst, including two threes by James Life, to close the first quarter 33-14 up.
Sharks began the second the stronger of the two sides as a 7-0 tear cut the deficit to 33-21. However, a technical foul on coach Peter Scantlebury resulted in Life hitting both free throws and Chuck Evans a three on the possession to put Worcester well on top again at 38-21.
By half time Worcester looked in control at 54-37 with Life scoring 25 of his game-high 29-points.
After the interval Sheffield tightened their defence and gradually chipped away at the Wolves lead. New signings James Whyte and Nathan Niesler were again to the fore as they closed the third quarter trailing by 10 (74-64).
Neither team managed to score in the first two minutes of the final stanza before Sharks got within striking distance of Wolves at 77-73 and 81-78. With Whyte fouled out an 83-80, James Life made one of two free throws to seal the win for Worcester.
