The Everton Tigers scored their first ever BBL win by taking the huge scalp of the reigning BBL Champions, the Poujoulat Heat Guildford, with a 91-80 victory at the Greenbank Academy.
The Tigers won the game behind 25 points from GB international centre Chris Haslam and led for much of the first half. They were 23-17 up at the end of the first ten minutes and maintained that at 45-38 by the half.
The Heat struck back in the third stanza with important scores from Mike Martin, who picked up a knock in the quarter, and edged in front as James Jones hit a triple that put them up 64-65 at the end of the third stanza.
With 3:00 to go in the game the Tigers had snatched back the lead after a John Simpson steal and lay-up that capped an 8-0 burst for a 75-68 lead. Everton iced the game with a further 11-4 burst to close the game, including 4 points from Tony Robertson, as that first win lifted them from the bottom of the table.
Robertson added 20 points on the night, with former All-Star Calvin Davis making 17. Danny Gilbert (17) and Tony Dorsey (16) led the visitors.
