The Guildford Heat kept up the pressure on the Newcastle Eagles at the top of the BBL Championship table thanks to a 72-84 victory over the SAMG Verve Scottish Rocks at the Braehead Arena on Sunday evening.

The Rocks scored the opening basket of the game, but were not to lead again in the match as the Heat rattled off the next eight points to take an early lead. Back-to-back three pointers from James Jones in the second quarter gave the Heat their biggest lead of the game at 20-40, but a Rocks 8-3 burst trimmed the score back to 28-43 towards the end of the first half.

The second half saw the Rocks start strongly, and a 9-3 tear midway through the third period got them to within twelve points at 42-54, but five points from Tony Dorsey sparked a 7-0 Heat run in the final period to take the score out to 59-78 and the visitors held on for the comfortable victory.

Jones and Michael Martin led the Heat scoring with 21 points a-piece, while Rob Yanders led all scorers in the game bagging 22 points for the Rocks.
