Newcastle Eagles picked up the final BBL Cup semi-final berth thanks to a comfortable 96-79 victory over the BiG Storage Cheshire Jets at the Metro Radio Arena, Newcastle on Sunday evening.

Both sides traded baskets early on, but it was the home side that made the first move with an 8-0 tear to take the score out to 17-10. The Eagles never looked back from this point as they continued to extend their advantage throughout the rest of the first half to go in at the break 51-35 to the good.

The second half saw the Eagles open with a 9-2 burst to leave the Jets trailing 60-37 early in the third.

The visitors desperately tried to get themselves back into the game, but the Eagles continued to pile on the points with a succession of three-pointers from Ola Babalola and Richard Midgley in the final quarter as they ran out comfortable winners.

Babalola led the Eagles scoring with 26 points, but it was Shawn Myers who led all scorers with 27 for the Jets.
